Once again liberals controlling the biggest social media platforms are stepping out to censor others in order to “protect” their own.
Twitter has permanently banned the @AOCPress account, which is a parody of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s actual account. While parody accounts are allegedly allowed, (there are several mocking the president) Twitter states that they cannot use “misleading account information in order to engage in spamming, abusive, or disruptive behavior including attempts to manipulate the conversations on Twitter.”
But that’s not all, Twitter also suspended the personal account of the sites creator Michael Morrison. He received an email that stated he “may not ‘post duplicative or substantially similar content, replies, or mentions over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account, or create duplicate or substantially similar accounts.’ This account will not be reinstated.”
Morrison however claims that it was the rapid growth of the site that brought on the ban. “In the past month and a half alone, the account grew by roughly 50,000 followers. We’ve had tweets with over 30,000 likes on them, so I think Twitter decided it was time for [the account] to go,” he said.
This has become a trend with social media platforms as a whole lately. Facebook and Instagram have both permanently banned the accounts of conservatives like Alex Jones, Paul Joseph Watson, James Woods and Laura Loomer.
Trump responded to the initial wave of bans by sharing that, “I am continuing to monitor the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms. This is the United States of America — and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!!”
It looks like it will take a presidential intervention in order to protect American freedoms online as well as at home.
