States Take Food Fight To Court

The administration of President Donald Trump is under attack just as frequently as the president himself. Now adding to the continued abuse, a number of states have filed a lawsuit over student cafeteria food.

New York, California, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, Vermont, and the District of Columbia are behind the lawsuit which was filed in New York federal court. The betrayal supposedly comes in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture relaxing the restrictions around federally subsidized meal programs in 2018. But it’s worth noting that the food plan was also championed by former First Lady Michelle Obama, who Trump hating Democrats still show immense favor.

However the 6 states joined by Washington D.C. claim USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was in violation of federal law when he failed to present an opportunity for the public to comment before the rollback.

The Obama led program previously required limits on sodium, no flavored milk, mandatory use of whole grains, and a calorie cap on lunches.

These restrictions proved to be both problematic for schools and less appetizing to students. The changes made by Perdue allowed schools to offer chocolate and strawberry 1 percent milk, manageable sodium reduction targets, and only half of the grains in an item must be whole grain.

  1. The states do NOT need the3 federal government to regulate something they can do themselves in their own states. Pull up you big girl pants and do you job states!
