People in Pennsylvania must be overly prone to exaggeration as a prayer given by state Rep. Stephanie Borowicz is being labeled as “Islamophobia.”
Granted, it should be pointed out that Muslim state Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell was the one to cry foul of bigotry.
Borowicz supposedly crossed the line when she prayed, “Jesus, you are our only hope. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus, that you are Lord.”
This set off Johnson-Harrell, who was at the Pennsylvania State Assembly to be sworn in that day. She shared that the prayer was, “highly offensive to me, my guests, and other members of the House.” She would later add in a statement that it also, “blatantly represented the Islamophobia that exists among some leaders — leaders that are supposed to represent the people. I came to the Capitol to help build bipartisanship and collaborations regardless of race or religion to enhance the quality of life for everyone in the Commonwealth.”
While Borowicz’s prayer did come off as a bit heavy, it in no way called for action against Muslims in a fashion that could be considered “Islamophobia.”
