Yet another Democratic candidate is jumping into the 2020 presidential election race and this one thinks he was “born to do this” according to statements he gave to Vanity Fair.
Beto O’Rourke, former Texas congressman, released a video alongside his wife declaring his candidacy.
“Amy and I are happy to share with you that I am running to serve you as the next president of the United States of America,” O’Rourke states.
O’Rourke has previously been best known for his failed attempt to replace Sen. Ted Cruz in the 2018 midterm elections.
Interestingly, O’Rourke has vowed to run a “positive” campaign, in the hopes that it will make him stand out in a race crowded with rivals.
“It is incumbent upon every single one of us … hold each other accountable not just for what we promise, enact or fail to enact, but how we conduct ourselves on the campaign trail,” O’Rourke said. “Critically important that we not denigrate or demean any other candidate. We don’t talk about their personal lives.”
A pleasant sentiment but one that isn’t likely to hold up under pressure.
