Twitter returned to the practice of heavy handed censorship by permanently suspending the account of far-right activist Jacob Wohl.
The social media company claims that Wohl has attempted to manipulate the 2020 election by violating the platform’s rules and making fake accounts to influence other users.
Twitter has become increasingly combative about enforcing it’s policies after being accused of being a tool for Russian agents seeking to sow dissent in the 2016 elections.
One such account that Twitter identified as belonging to Wohl was the @women_4_schultz. The page focused on former Starbucks CEO and billionaire Howard Schultz, how may be speculating a 2020 presidential run.
Wohl admitted ownership of the account, but claimed that it was merely an “intellectual exercise” meant to gauge the appeal Schultz had with liberal women.
Wohl is certainly familiar with controversy, but do his actions really justify banning him? Do they really add up to manipulation?
