President Trump may take it upon himself to review the case of Green beret Matthew Golsteyn, and his father Jerry Golsteyn welcomes the expertise of the POTUS.
Matthew Golsteyn faces charges of murdering a Taliban bomb maker while on duty in Afghanistan in 2010. The issue arose that while the bomb maker was known to work with the Taliban, he was not put on Golsteyn’s kill list.
Golseyn was originally cleared of any wrongdoing back in 2016. Unfortunately the has has now been reopened.
A reason was given by U.S. Army Special Operations Command spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer via statement which read:
“Major Matthew Golsteyn’s immediate commander has determined that sufficient evidence exists to warrant the preferral [sic] of charges against him. Major Golsteyn has been charged with the murder of an Afghan male during his 2010 deployment to Afghanistan.”
The story has gained plenty of attention, which eventually caught the eye of President Trump who tweeted he would be looking into the matter.
“At the request of many, I will be reviewing the case of a “U.S. Military hero,” Major Matt Golsteyn, who is charged with murder. He could face the death penalty from our own government after he admitted to killing a Terrorist bomb maker while overseas,” Trump wrote.
Fox News hosted Golsteyn’s father Jerry, who spoke about the president weighing in on the case.
“I’m all for it. I think last time I checked, he’s the commander-in-chief. If he feels that something is not going as it should go, I’m more than happy to get him in there and look at the situation and make decisions. Absolutely,” he stated.
