CNN has been called upon by Project 21, a black conservative activist group, to make a statement regarding the what was said by anchor Don Lemon.
Lemon stated in conversation with peer Chris Cuomo that white men were the biggest terrorist threat to the U.S. and questioned why there wasn’t a travel ban placed on them.
While many have decried the remarks, Lemon has refused to denounce them and controversially reasserted his words. So far CNN has flatly refused to discuss the issue.
The Project 21 organization is associated with the conservative group The National Center for Public Policy Research. They castigated Lemon’s remarks and request that CNN President Jeff Zucker weigh in on Lemon’s behavior.
The group made a news release writing, “Within a space of five seconds, CNN’s Don Lemon went from saying we shouldn’t demonize people to broadly labeling white men as our nation’s ‘biggest terror threat.’”
“That’s not responsible journalism,” it continues. “This cannot stand.”
“CNN President Jeff Zucker recently called out the White House for its criticism of the media, saying President Trump doesn’t comprehend the importance of the words he uses,” the statement continues. “It’s time for Zucker to put his own house in order — starting with explaining how Don Lemon’s outrageous statement can stand in light of Zucker’s call for civility.”
There has yet to be a response.
